About Appliance Granny
Hello There!
I am Madlyn – an almost-retired, tech-savvy grandmother who ran an IT business for 30+ years. I love family, good food, and any gadget with an On–Off switch.
During my time in IT, my projects included leading the design and implementation of large-scale software systems for multi-home aged care organizations supporting thousands of residents.
Working closely with systems that handled resident records, meals, medical information, and daily operations gave me a deep respect for how aged care works in practice – and how essential safety, clarity, and reliability are for older adults. That perspective continues to shape everything I write here.
I also know first-hand how kitchens can get tricky as we age: heavy pots, hot handles, tiny buttons, confusing settings. My goal is simple:
Help seniors create safer, smarter, more joyful kitchens.
On this site you’ll find practical tips, step-by-step guides, and senior-friendly advice – always written from lived experience, clear research, and a friendly Granny voice.
Why I started Appliance Granny
Over the years, my kitchen has been everything from a science lab to a family gathering space – filled with laughter, experiments, and the occasional burnt casserole. But as I got older (and wiser), I realized how much seniors like me could use a little extra support: not just with tools, but with ideas.
I created Appliance Granny to share practical ways to make kitchen life safer, easier, and more joyful. From handling arthritis to cooking with grandkids or just simplifying daily tasks, my goal is to help you feel confident and capable in the heart of your home.
It’s also about routines that work, small changes that matter, and rediscovering the fun of cooking, prepping, and sharing meals at any age.
After running an IT company for more than 30 years, I naturally approach appliances and kitchen tools with a technical eye. I love understanding how things work, what makes them safe, and how thoughtful design can support seniors as our hands, vision, and strength change over time.
